Product Improvements
This section summarizes new improvements or minor functionality changes to existing Zengine features and plugins that have been released in Q2 of 2024.
Review Portal
Improved Record Sorting and Search
- Release Date: April 2, 2024
- Product Improvement: The ability to search and sort assigned submissions has been added to the Review Portal experience.
- Description: When a portal user logs into a Review Portal and sees their assigned submissions for review on the Listings page, portal users previously only had the option to Search for specific submission assignments using fields that were configured to show in the Review Portal Settings. Now, however, portal users can also Sort their assigned submissions (in ascending or descending alphabetical order by the same criteria. These Search / Sort fields appear at the top of the Listings page.
-
Notes:
- Portal users can search or sort submission assignments by any field from the primary form that has been configured to show data for a submission listing. These can be configured (up to 5 items, or 4 fields and a button) in the Settings for a Review Portal, in the Data tab → Listing Style subtab.
- In addition, only field types that contain text can be selected under Search By and Sort By, such as Text, Text Box, Dropdown, Radio Button, and Checkbox fields. Other field types (such as Number or Date fields) cannot be used to search and sort submission assignments. This is true even if fields of those types are configured to appear on a submission assignment listing.
- For more information on Sorting and Searching, see the article The Review Portal Experience (Viewing Assignments).
- For more information on configuring the items that appear on a submission assignment listing, see the article Review Portal Plugin Setup (Data).
Zengine - Workspace
“Help” Links Changed
- Release Date: May 15, 2024
- Product Improvement: The links that displayed when the “Help” icon was selected in a workspace have been updated.
- Description: Previously, selecting the “Help” icon in the upper-right corner of any workspace page would display links to the Help Center (or Knowledge Base) and the What’s New page of the Knowledge Base. However, the What’s New section was easily accessible from the main page of the Knowledge Base, so it was decided to replace this second link with one directing workspace users to the System Status page, which was not easily accessible from elsewhere in the Zengine platform.
Color Palette Update for Accessibility
- Release Date: May 22, 2024
- Product Improvement: The color palette used in a few places within Zengine, such as graphs and charts in Reporting Dashboard, or on a data view to indicate columns that came from linked forms, was updated to provide for better visibility and accessibility.
- Description: In these features (Reporting Dashboard widgets and data view column headers), the use of white text against a yellow background made it difficult to read the text or numbers displayed. The color palette that Zengine selects from in these situations was updated to remove yellow and similar light-hued colors, and only select darker colors that create a better contrast with white text for visibility.
Document Templates Plugin
Allow PDFs to be Generated without Margins
- Release Date: June 18, 2024
- Product Improvement: A new option has been added to the configuration settings for a document template. This option allows users to configure templates that will generate with no margins; in other words, an image or text in the document will stretch to the very edge of the page when it is generated as a PDF. This is especially useful for documents that are formatted with background images, such as award certificates, or use banner images that are meant to take up the entire width of a document.
-
Description: On the right side of the page when editing a template, a new checkbox option will appear labeled No Margins. Checking this box and saving the document template will result in the generated PDF having no margins on any side (including top or bottom) of the document: any images or text that is not centered or indented will be aligned with the edge of the document.
- Note that this will not be evident using the "Preview" function when editing a document template; the No Margins setting will only produce this result when a PDF document is generated from this template for a specific record.
Bug Fixes
This is a list of all bugs that have been fixed, ordered by release date, in Q2 of 2024.
April 2024
Release Date | Feature Affected | Description of Bug and Fix |
April 2 | Submission Portal | In the submission portal, in a few cases, a Calculation field would display words like “NaN” or “Infinity” rather than a calculated value. This is now fixed. |
April 16 | DocuSign E-Signatures Plugin | When sending an unsigned document for e-signature from the Trigger Form, in the “Send for Signatures” overlay, administrators can edit recipient email addresses. Previously, the same email address could be entered more than once, which caused problems with the e-signature process. A fix was made to prevent this from occurring, and the e-signature request can no longer be sent if duplicate email addresses were entered. In addition, an error message was added to reflect this. |
April 16 | DocuSign E-Signatures Plugin |
A DocuSign configuration can designate different forms for the Documents Source Form and Documents Target Form. Previously, if the forms fulfilling these roles were different, and a linked record on the Target Form did not exist when a signed document finished the e-signature process, the signed document would not upload to Zengine as intended. A fix for this was created: if this situation occurs, the DocuSign E-signatures Plugin will now create a draft record on the Target Form, link it to the appropriate parent record, and upload the signed document as intended. All other fields will be left blank. |
April 16 | Zengine - Data Views / Form Groups | An error was thrown when trying to save a data view or form group as the default view/group. This is now fixed. |
April 16 | Bulk Actions | In Bulk Actions, the Action History pane shows a Total Running View of pending and in-progress jobs. Previously, failed jobs were displayed on this list. Failed jobs should be excluded from this Action History view, and this is now working as intended. |
April 30 | Cross Workspace Reporting Plugin | If a .CSV file report generated using the Cross Workspace Reporting plugin contained no data, it would not download and no explanation would be given. This has been fixed; a .CSV file report will download showing the column headings but will contain no data. |
April 30 | Portals - Markdown | When using Markdown formatting in a Presentational Text field on a form to embed hyperlinks, the “mailto:” markdown to embed email addresses in text was not functioning properly in a Submission or Review Portal. This has been fixed and is now working as intended in a portal. |
May 2024
Release Date | Feature Affected | Description of Bug and Fix |
May 15 | Zengine API - Zapier | When the Zengine API was sending information to Zapier for automations that involved a calculation, and the output was a number with decimal places, the API would send a whole number to Zapier if the number ended in 0. This was causing issues in a limited number of edge cases and has been fixed. |
May 15 | Submission Portal | In limited circumstances, if an administrator tried to enable the “No Duplicates” advanced field option for a linked form field in a workspace form, it could cause an error “E1100” when a portal user would try to access that form in the submission portal. This has been fixed. |
May 15 | Images | Previously, .HEIC image files were not being rendered correctly in Zengine or in the PDF view of a portal. This is now fixed. |
May 15 | PDF Download | Attempting to create and download a PDF file created from the form view of a record in the workspace with large default names (over 128 characters in length) was causing a 403 error due to the length of the record identifier. This is now no longer a problem. |
May 15 | PDF Generation | When attempting to create a PDF from a record in a workspace that contained many file uploads, the PDF generation would sometimes time out because of the number of files to convert into the PDF. This is now resolved. |
May 15 | Document Template & DocuSign | Attempting to format a DocuSign Date tag in a Document Template was causing the date to disappear in the final PDF document when it was e-signed in DocuSign. This is no longer an issue. |
May 15 | General Matching Plugin | The General Matching Plugin was failing to create matches when triggered in some circumstances - specifically, when a form involved in the configuration was changed, the configuration was not updated automatically to reflect those changes. This is now resolved. |
May 22 | Reporting Dashboard | When configuring a Pie Chart widget, entering a value in the “Decimal Places” field was not updating the number of decimal places displayed in numbers shown on the pie chart. This is now fixed. |
June 2024
Release Date | Feature Affected | Description of Bug and Fix |
June 19 | SSO/SAML (Single Sign-On) | When Single Sign-On (SSO) was enabled for a workspace or portal, the necessary information is rendered into the XML document used for initiating a SAML2 SSO request. This information included the name of the organization; If the organization contained an ampersand (&) in the name, it raised an exception, resulting in a broken SSO integration. This has now been corrected. |
June 19 | Portals - Markdown |
When clicking on a hyperlink created using Markdown in a Presentational Text Field, Zengine should display a warning message if the URL is to an external site, but not if the URL goes to another part of Zengine (such as a different submission portal). This worked as intended in a Zengine workspace, but Submission and Review Portal users were receiving this warning message regardless of the URL type. This is now working as intended, and portal users clicking on a link will only receive a warning message if the URL directs to an external website. |
June 19 | Submission Portals |
When a submission portal Listing Step was configured to "Hide if no records exist," meaning that the step would be hidden from portal users if no linked records associated with that step existed, the intended functionality was that this step would show if previously submitted/completed records existed and the stage had been submitted. However, this bug was causing the associated step to be hidden with this configuration option turned on when the stage was complete, regardless of whether records existed or not. This has been fixed, and the Listing Step will now correctly display in the submission portal when linked records exist after the stage has been submitted. |
June 19 | Marketplace |
When searching for a plugin in the Zengine Marketplace, users were unable to navigate away from the first page of results after typing key words into the Search Bar; selecting a different results page would redirect users back to the first page. The ultimate cause of this bug came from a deeper coding issue, so a workaround was released that removed pagination from the results when users searched for plugins using the Search Bar. In other words, all results will appear on the same page. |
June 19 | DocuSign E-Signatures Plugin |
In a DocuSign E-Signatures Plugin configuration, if a trigger form is configured to send to a specified list of recipients on a form, and the trigger record has no recipients linking to it, The 'Send for Signature' button on the trigger record would throw a console error and nothing would happens. This is correct in the sense that it should break, since there are no recipients listed to send to, but the end user does not see any kind of error messaging indicating this was the case, leading to confusion as to why attempting to send a DocuSign e-signature request failed. A message was added that will appear at the top of the screen stating "No recipients for the linked form" when this happens in the future. |
